Outback

I was on an Outback-trip for seven days and six nights. In the beginning of this trip i was like why did i even pay for this? We had to get up at 5 am every morning and roll our swags and sleeping bags. Then we had breakfast and went to a nice place to watch the sunrise... After 3 days I knew why I came there... The view, the animals.. nature. It was just amazing. Back in Alice Springs on our last day, we learnt a lot about the aboriginal culture. I made a lot of new friends, basically germans. We were 27 exchange students, 21 Germans, three Austrians, one Swiss and two Czecks.
I met all of them again yesterday when we went to the Royal Easter Show. It was really fun and I bought a lot of Showbags :)

High School

Now I've been to school for 7 days and I really like it. But I must say it is very different to austrian schools. First of all all australian schools have a school uniform, so there is no bullying. The school level is very low and the teachers are funny and it can get very loud in class because everybody is talking. So it is very funny during school but I get home at 4 pm and this was it. After school I do my homework, then is dinner, I watch a movie and go to bed. My whole life here is about school and the weekend. Last weekend I was at Bondi Beach and in the cinema (at the movies - how australians call it). Next weekend I'm going to lern surfing!! I am so excited! Dinner time got to go.

Orientation Day

On Friday, 28.01., all international students, that were going to a school near Sydney, came to a Orientation Meeting. It was a lot of fun. Nearly everybody came from germany, we were four from Austria, then there were about 10 from Brazil... the rest, about 50 students, was germans. I met many nice people, some of them are also going to my school, Narrabeen Sports High. But they are doing year 11. I'm doing year 10 and I don't know why but we'll figure this out tomorrow, because that's my first day at school! My first week here was ok. We didn't do much, swimming, eating, one day we went to Sydney. And on Thursday I made Schnitzel, which was much fun. I am really excited about tomorrow because I cannot wait to make friends. I mean I already found some on Friday but that is not the same. Another thing I am excited about is the Subjects at my school. I can choose from very different subjects like cooking, dance, arts, maths, biology, drama, music, sports... and I will get my school uniform tomorrow! Woohoo

Australia Day

Yesterday, Wednesday 26.01., was Australia Day. Australian people really love their country. They had lots of stuff with the australian flag on it. At 10am we went to Simone`s mother to have a swim and then lunch. We had a Barbecue and it was really good, but the australian food is much different from the austrian. They have barbecued meat and salad. No side dish. I think that is a little bit weird but ok. I am still jetlaged and cannot sleep. Today Paul and I are going to Sydney to visit the Harbourbridge, the Opera House and maybe some other things. I am really looking forward to it but I am more excited about tomorrow because of my Orientation Meeting.

My first day

It was a very long journey from Vienna to Sydney. On Thursday 7 pm I flew from Vienna to London Heathrow with British Airways. Then 9 pm from London to Bangkok with Qantas and then to Sydney. I arrived at 7 pm on Saturday (Vienna: Friday, 9 pm). I was picked up by a driver who was very friendly and showed me the opera house and the harbour bridge. My hostfamily is really nice, but sometimes I just don't understand them. And I think that it is very embarrasing to say "Pardon? I didn't understand what you were saying?" like a hundred times. I just have to get used to it. Today we went to a café for breakfast because a friend of Simone (my hostmother) had her 30th birthday. It was a lot of fun and I met two girls from germany. After breakfast we went to Simone's mother who has a Spa (similar to a big whirlpool) in her garden. The sun is burning down but it can get really cold because of the wind which comes from the sea. Now some things I found out about Australia:
  • People drive on the left side and their cars have the steerings on the right
  • Shops are open on Sundays
  • Supermarkets close during the week at 10 pm
...
Now I go to get some sleep
